Bootsfahrt durch die Katherine Gorge und Route Katherine - Victoria Highway - Kununurra

Eine Bootsfahrt in die Katherine Gorge sollte nicht ausgelassen werden. Dabei stehen dem Besucher motorisierte Personenboote oder Kanus zum Mieten zur Verfügung. Die ruhige Schlucht mit dem blauen Wasser und den steilen Felsen ist imposant und sehenswert.

Beim Bootshafen kann man auf fliegende Hunde (Flying Fox), eine Art Fledermäuse, treffen. Diese Tiere hängen kopfunter an den Eukalyptus - Bäumen und machen einen ohrenbetäubenden Lärm.

Unterwegs in der Schlucht stösst man auch auf alte Felszeichnungen der Aboriginees.

Auf dem Weg von Katherine über Victoria River, Fitzroy, Timber Creek nach Kununurra sieht man vermehrt Boap Trees, regionstypische Bäume mit flaschenförmigen Stämmen.

An der Grenze zwischen dem Northern Territory und Western Australia liegt die "Quarantine Station". Jedes Auto wird hier von den Beamten genau untersucht, ob nicht irgenwelche Früchte, Gemüse oder Samen über die Grenze gebracht werden. Man tut gut daran, alles zu deklarieren, denn die Bussen sind sehr hoch.
