Das Great Barrier Reef ist von Port Douglas aus mit einem Katamaran erreichbar. Aktivitäten wie Tauchen, mit dem Helikopter über das Great Barrier Reef fliegen, mit dem U-Boot abtauchen, werden angeboten.

Das Great Barrier Reef ist eine bedrohte Landschaft. Die Meereserwärmung und die Wasserverschmutzung setzen den empfindlichen Korallen arg zu. Besucher des Barrier Reefs sollten das Gewässer mit allem Respekt erkunden. Speziell das Abschlagen von Korallen als Souvenir muss in jedem Fall unterlassen werden.
